Adsense Basics

Introduction:
  • Google advertisement program is a way for Web sites to make money by using the program to easily incorporate ads into the site pages. Google Adsense can be especially useful for smaller companies that don't have a specific department or position to create and sell advertisement space on their site.
·  Step 1: Adsense Basics :
  1. Users can get paid on a per-click basis when visitors to the site click on an ad.
  2. They can get paid on a per-impression basis when a visitor view a page that has an ad on it.
  3. Google Adsense also has several other programs. This page covers the Adsense for content, that is using Adsense by displaying ads on Web site pages.
·  Step 2: Ad Placement and Design
  1. Google Adsense generally recommends that ads are placed and designed so they are similar to the Web site colors and design, as users are more likely to look at and click on unobtrusive ads.
  2. Although the ads should not stick out too much on your page, designing Web site content so it mimics the ad design is not permitted. Users should be able to easily tell ads and content apart.
  3. It's often best to use the same color for the ad's and site's background, or a color that is dominant on the page.
  4. For Web sites with dark background, Google recommends using ads with a background that contrast the color instead.
  5. The location of the ad is important as well. Placing ads on the top of the page can improve visibility, but can also decrease the quality of the user's experience when visiting your site.
  6. If most of the Web site visitors are returning users, you should change the placement and colors of the ads on a a regular basis.
  7. If you have a small Web site with only a few pages, consider building extra pages such as "contact us" and "about us", which will be useful for the visitor and also create more pages for ads.
·  Step 3: Keywords and Top Searches
  1. There are a variety of tools available to find out top searches on the Internet.
  2. There are also a variety of tools to find out which keywords pay higher than others. You can sign up to Google Adwords program to learn more about the difference between keywords.
  3. Your main concern when creating content should be the user experience, not increasing ad revenue. Building a site around ads is not permitted according to Google Adsense standards. Also remember that users will also not return to a site that does not have quality content.

Google Analytics accounts have access to event tracking by time, so you can use the following hack in order to get real reports of bounce rate without skewing any of data. Even more, the hack will help Google Analytics track better (not perfect though) the time spent on site by each visitor.

What you need to do is to fire up an event each time a user spends more than 10 seconds on the website. Just add the following line under the pageTracker._trackPageview(); line:
setTimeout('pageTracker._trackEvent(\'NoBounce\', \'NoBounce\', \'Over 10 seconds\')',10000);

Update
In case you have decided to already update to the new code here is how the hack would be applied (place it as the last _gaq.push declaration) .

setTimeout('_gaq.push([\'_trackEvent\', \'NoBounce\', \'Over 10 seconds\'])',10000);
10000 refers to the number of milliseconds after which you want to fire up the above code. If you want to do it after 15 seconds than you need to place there 15000.The hack will not alter your data in any way. It will just record in the Events section all the non-bouncers.

FIND OUT WHO YOUR COMPETITORS

FIND OUT WHO YOUR COMPETITORS ARE AND MONITOR THEM IN REAL TIME
There are many keyword research and competitor monitoring tools today. Most of them are daily updated from a database, but there’s no guarantee that the information from the database is fresh.
Keyword Competitor differs from other SEO tools in a way that it gathers real-time information telling you what is happening right now. There’s absolutely no need to mention how competitive both PPC and Organic ranklinks have become. Current information helps you make better decisions on PPC and SEO.
If you know who your competitors are, you simply type in their domain address and get a list of their Paid Keywords, Organic Keywords, Competitors (with your domain in it – if we are talking about YOUR competitors) and ads that are running right now.
If you don't know your competitors you can search for keywords or keyword phrases that will help you find websites that compete for these keywords. Once you identified the relevant web sites you can search them individually through Keyword Competitor to learn what specific online advertisements they are running right now in Google and Yahoo.
Keep in mind that you can search for competitors within a country like the US choosing a more specific area like a particular state or a city. You can also leave out those state/city points to get a more detailed report. Note that your competitor doesn’t necessarily advertise his products or services in one country. So, be careful on choosing the location you’re interested in.
Keyword Competitor is simple to use. You will assess its definite advantage over all the other keyword tools. Sign up for a free trial http://www.keywordcompetitor.com/signup.aspx today and start monitoring your competitors!

The relationship between SEO and social media

Social media is an integral portion of a successful SEO campaign in the current landscape. Social media marketing helps mainly with creating the global link popularity that is essential to high rankings.  Successful social media distribution of high value content has helped to solve the issue of not having enough unique linking domains or global link popularity, which has traditionally been one of the most difficult SEO variables to succeed at. Social media marketing is great for targeting the same demographics but just on a different platform away from your traditional search engine results pages. Most of the major social networks like Facebook, Myspace, and Twitter, purposely nofollow or truncate outbound links. This strategy drastically cuts down spam in their networks, and improves their quality and relevancy in the major search engines.

Detailed description of optimising your campaigns.

Basic Optimizations
Developing a campaign require timely analysis. First of all deciding the theme or idea of the product. Since Google allows 25 campaigns per account there should be a careful planning and Strategy.
1)      Give a proper name to campaign – This help one to easily understand what is inside the campaign.
2)      Decide what adgroups goes in – The adgroups should be constructed based on the theme for example if we have a campaign related to laptop adgroups should be Dell, HP, Acer etc
3)      Keywords – This determine the success of the campaign. The keyword should be constructed based on the adgroups theme and the search volume such as Dell laptops, dell notebooks etc

Optimization

First of all the campaign CTR is determined, Generally Search CTR will be always higher than the content network. So if the CTR is low indentify which adgroup has the lower CTR that has resulted in the overall CTR if the adgroup is determined analyze the keywords present inside the adgroups . The CTR decrease may be due to the Irrelevant ads
If the CTR is good and better a detailed analysis should be carried out such status of the website because that effects the Conv rate.
Effective Bidding: As Google says “Don’t be Evil” I think bidding has a great influence in the campaign management If bidding increases so as the Avg Position increases.
All this have a great impact on the Quality score
